- Benjamin Bradley Coulter was born on February 4, 2002. Everything about the delivery seemed normal. The following day a pediatrician from Children's Hospital came by to check on Ben. He told us that he heard a heart murmur but not to worry because several babies are born with a heart murmur that usually goes away. When Ben was two days old, right before we left the hospital, another pediatrician came by and told us that Ben had a significant heart murmur and we needed to go to Children's Hospital for an echocardiogram. We went immediately to Children's Hospital and an echocardiogram was done. Dr. Michael Liske was there to observe the echo and gave us a diagnosis of Tetralogy of Fallot. Shocked, devastated, confused were just a few of the feelings we had at the time. We knew nothing about heart defects. All we knew was our perfect little boy had something wrong with his heart and we didn't know what to do. This began our experience with congenital heart defects. Because of our experiences we decided to start an organization to help children and families affected by heart defects.
